They / Them / Theirs
Starting therapy can be a daunting step, whether you are seeking it out for yourself, your adolescent child, or your relationship. You may have already tried to cobble together solutions from some combination of the advice of friends and family, self-help books, pop psych social media, and other sources that may be well-meaning or flashy-looking, but fail to impart meaningful change.
Our most challenging patterns and deepest wounds tend to resist cookie-cutter solutions, and are far more malleable in the container of a relationship and space where we feel free to say anything and everything that comes to mind. That is the space I aim to co-create with my clients.
I am able to help with a variety of challenges and concerns, including depression, anxiety, complex trauma, neurodivergence, and gender/sexual identity exploration, but these labels are just umbrella terms that are totally insufficient to capture the particular nuances of someone’s story, and the path you may have taken here.
Perhaps you are just stepping into adulthood and finally have the freedom to figure out who you are and what you want, without anyone pushing their agenda on you. Maybe the ups and downs of a relationship have led to old pain resurfacing, or a newly discovered piece of your identity is forcing you to shift your life and face the unknown. Perhaps you are realizing you need to build up your teen’s village so that they can get the support they need to do the important work of becoming themselves. Or perhaps you’re finding yourself overwhelmed by our increasingly hostile and fractured sociopolitical climate, and need a space to figure out what kind of life you can build in a world that is making your possibilities feel smaller.
Whatever concern brings you here, my goal is to be a guide in the lifelong project of knowing yourself, so that you can live more freely and fully. With individual adults and teens, I do this primarily with relational and psychodynamic talk therapy approaches, and with relationships I additionally incorporate Gottman Method and attachment-based approaches to help build up communication skills quickly before addressing the underlying histories and patterns that each individual brings to the relationship. I work with all relationship structures, marital statuses, and sexual identities in relationships and have particular interests in supporting those who are navigating issues related to communication, sexual intimacy, and nonmonogamy in relationships. I am committed to examining my work through an anti-oppressive lens that accounts for the ways larger political, social, economic, and cultural systems shape and inform our inner lives and relationships.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate and I graduated from Western Carolina University’s Masters of Social Work program with a certificate in addiction studies. Prior to that, I earned a BA in English and Slavic Studies from Brown University. I have enjoyed internship and work experiences in a college counseling center, at a middle school, and as an ACT team therapist. I’m committed to my continued learning and growth, through ongoing training, supervision, and my own therapy.
If you are ready to work with a therapist that will provide a space for you to better understand yourself, recognize and break old patterns, and build a life that feels like it’s your own, I would love to help and I look forward to meeting you!
