She / Her
Hi there! I’m Thea and I am glad you are here. You’ve taken the first step (which is always the hardest) so congrats!
I would be honored to work with you on this journey. My approach is to meet you where you are, getting to know your challenges, your strengths and you as a person. Together, we can build a relationship that helps you connect deeper to yourself, navigate old conditioning and decide who you want to be going forward.
I take an eclectic approach to therapy, meaning I have various tools, and we will work together to decide which ones are the right fit for you. I am also passionate about the brain and the breath and consider myself a bit of a nerd in this regard, so you might hear me say things like, “Let’s check in with your breath.” But, all in all my main focus is building a strong relationship with you, honoring your autonomy and creating a space where you can feel truly safe. I also make a point to leave room for humor, occasional Spongebob references (because there is one for just about everything) and some swear words.
My work is grounded in respect for humanity. I am committed to human rights and social justice. I am also a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I believe in accountability, tough and uncomfortable conversations, and continuous growth, even when it is uncomfortable. My work is also grounded in my own healing, as I strongly believe that every time I ask something difficult of a client, I need to know how it feels on the other side.
As far as my background, I received my Masters of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have worked alongside adults, adolescents, and children dealing with mental health struggles in residential, PHP, IOP, crisis and outpatient levels of care. I am trained in EMDR. I have worked extensively treating OCD and other anxiety disorders in children, adolescents and adults using CBT and ERP. I have also worked with depression, self-harm, suicidality, complex trauma and eating disorders using DBT, CBT, ACT, self-compassion, IFS, and Behavioral Activation.
I also have experience working with neurodivergent children, adolescents and adults.
I consider myself a lifelong lover of learning, and plan to continue to add to my toolbox.
Outside of being a therapist, I love being in nature. I love kayaking, birdwatching paddleboarding, hiking, biking, and just taking long walks. I also love to travel and recently spent a lot of time in Costa Rica. I love to swim and attempt to surf. I love to write, do yoga, read, paint and play guitar. I also have two very sweet and spoiled cats (Etta and Doodle) who are always getting into new shenanigans.
