Hello! My name is Mark Ackerman. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and I have worked with children and families for 20+ years. I have worked primarily in the public school setting and specialize in working with children and families who struggle with social interactions, behavior management, conduct disorder, self-esteem, trauma, and emotional regulation. Children who work with me leave my office feeling seen and validated, and caregivers who work with me leave with concrete strategies to connect with their child and they feel more empowered to meet their child’s unique needs.

Social justice is important to me. As a person of color, it’s essential to work to address inequities and disparities within our society. I work with children and families that may exhibit some adjustment difficulties stemming from to divorce or other changes in the household dynamics, grief and loss, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, and other issues facing the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ community.

I believe that building strong relationships is the key to healing and growth. The primary modalities I use in the therapy room are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief Therapy, Solution-Focused/Strengths-Based Therapy, Play Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy.

I believe it is my job as a therapist to work collaboratively with my clients and their caregivers to find a path forward, focusing on understanding and connection.

* Mark works with children ages 5-12, young adults, and he also provides support to foster and adoptive parents. Mark is in network with Aetna and Blue Cross insurance. *
